Bertha L. Pomeroy, daughter of Toy and Mary (Ashby) Hancock, was born May 29, 1932 in Caney, Kansas. She passed away Monday morning, January 4, 2010 in the Spring View Manor at Conway Springs, Kansas at the age of 77.

On January 22, 1949, Bertha was united in marriage with Charles "Bob" Pomeroy in Claremore, Oklahoma and they made their home in Norwich since that time.

In 1963, they bought the Standard Station and it became Pomeroy's Service. They later opened Pomeroy's Office at the corner of Burns and Robbins. In 1988, they opened Bert & Bob's Café and continued with the café for five years.

Bertha was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, both in Norwich.

Bob and Bertha were blessed with three children, Betty, Ron, and Richard. Betty passed away in 1980. She was the mother of Lisa and Bethany. Bob and Bertha adopted and raised Lisa and Bethany as their own.

Bertha was also preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob on June 13, 2003; her brother, Charles Hancock and one sister, Lois Dawson.

She will be missed by her children: Ron and Pat Pomeroy of Belle Plaine, KS, Richard Pomeroy of Norwich, KS, Lisa and Jonn Harder of Newton, KS, and Bethany Gore of Wichita, KS; two sisters: Neva Kalm of Bloomington, Illinois and Loetha and Bill Dennett of Garfield, Arkansas; five grandchildren: Miles & Nicholas Pomeroy, Jacob and Samuel Harder, and Stacie Jarmer; two great grandchildren: Jordan and Brett Jarmer; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the United Methodist Church at Norwich with Rev Dr. Doug Tofteland officiating. Honorary casket bearers are Miles Pomeroy, Nicholas Pomeroy, Jonn Harder, Jerry Pomeroy, Charles Reed, and Chad Mickey.
Burial will be in the Upchurch Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to either the Spring View Manor in Conway Springs or the American Cancer Society.

The Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper was in charge of arrangements.
