Jean LaNeve Floyd Jensen was born in Sublette, Kansas on May 17, 1935 to Mildred Nadine and Silford Leo Floyd. The oldest of eight children, Neve, as she was known by her family, helped raise her siblings while the family moved several times throughout Kansas. She graduated from WSU in 1959 with a degree in Secondary Education. She took her first teaching job in a small town called Anthony, planning to stay there only a year. There she met the love of her life, Donald Jensen, who lived in the apartment next door. Jean and Don were married on August 23, 1960 in the United Methodist Church. They recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary -- still living in Anthony. Their relationship of love, devotion and mutual respect will continue to be a true example to their family.

Three children were born to this union whom Jean and Don have cherished and watched grow, succeed, and raise families of their own. Countless sporting events, scout meetings, piano practices, and holidays created a busy family life ... just the way the Jensens liked it. The family enjoyed camping and activities at the church with their many dear friends.

During this time, Jean was a distinguished English teacher for USD 361. She cherished her dear colleagues – considering them all family. In 1984, She finished her Master's degree in English Studies from Fort Hays University. Jean was also awarded a year of sabbatical study from the National Endowment for the Humanities. She was a beloved teacher who knew the true value of her students and strove to find the best in each of them. Several students became life-long friends and often kept in touch.

Jean spent 30 years at the pipe organ of The Anthony United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished pianist and taught several children piano lessons. She was also very active in the church including leadership roles with the United Methodist Women and other state-wide conference committees. Jean's faith was truly remarkable and unwavering. She would spend many nights praying deeply for friends and family and loved to study the history and life of her wonderful savior. One can only imagine the questions she has to ask!

In her beautiful garden, traveling and tending to her adorable passel of grandchildren was where you could most likely find Jean in her retirement. She and Don doted on their eight, beautiful grand-daughters and their wonderful grandson. Most conversations with friends drifted in the direction of bragging about their brood. Jean was the grand hostess of weekly Sunday dinners and holiday events; anyone was always welcome and never left without hugs and leftovers.

Her spirit of selflessness and sense of discovery will be deeply missed but never forgotten by her children Doug and Julie Jensen of El Dorado Kansas, Beth and Dan Farmer of Sand Springs Oklahoma, and Lori Jensen of Anthony; her darlings Lauren, Bret, Mason, Addi, Ella, Nichole, Samantha, Sarah, Taylor, Emily, Derek, Spencer, Laura, Megan, Neve and Cate; her siblings Larry and Veta Floyd, Sharon and Keith Wood, Karen and Mike Short, Mark and Pat Floyd, and David and Mary Floyd; 16 nieces and nephews and their families; and many cherished friends. She happily rejoins her much beloved parents, sisters Phyllis Ann and Mary Katherine, and parents-in-law Axel and Mamie Jensen.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Anthony with Reverend Terry McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Memorials can be given to the Jean Jensen Scholarship fund for Chaparral students. The family would also like to dearly thank the kind and loving staff of Rivercross Hospice and the Kansas Heart Hospital.
