Betty Patterson was born June 10, 1924 in Zenda, Kansas to Floyd Ansel and Elsie Gladys (Broce) Newberry. She was their first child and their only daughter.
Betty grew up on a farm outside of Attica. She attended a one-room schoolhouse for all eight grades called Kerr School. After graduating from the eighth grade, she drove to Attica for High School. She also drove her two brothers to Attica so that they could attend school there. She graduated from Attica High School in 1942.
She was married to Wendell Allen Patterson on May 11, 1944 in Attica, Kansas. To this union were born three sons, Kent Edward, Neal Lynn and Bryan Lee.
After her marriage to Wendell, they made their home on a farm just east of Manchester, Oklahoma. There they raised three sons and began their wheat and cattle business. They later moved two miles north into Kansas and continued farming.
In 1984 Betty and Wendell moved to Anthony, Kansas. They became very active in their church and community. She taught Sunday School were she had the opportunity to minister to many young people. She was also finance officer at the church.
Betty loved doing genealogy and researching the family history. They traveled to Tennessee several times in search of Patterson history. She also went to Salt Lake City to the Mormon genealogy library.
She was an avid KU basketball fan and even attended the 2008 National Championship game. This was one of the highlights of her life. She looked forward to the season and checked off each game on her calendar.
Betty was a great cook and loved entertaining people at her dinner table, especially her family.
In 2009, Betty moved to Country Living in Anthony. She always enjoyed her many friends. Everyone loved to stop by to see her. She so appreciated the staff and the loving care that they gave her.
She peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday, May 22nd at 4:30 AM at the Anthony Medical Center. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two twin brothers, Clifton and Clifford Newberry, one grandson, Scott Edward Patterson and one daughter-in-law, Linda Sue (Rice) Patterson.
She will missed by her sons: Kent Patterson and wife Gini from Marana, AZ, Neal Patterson and wife Jeanne from Village of Loch Lloyd, MO, Bryan Patterson and Lauri Mock of Anthony, KS; her seven grandchildren; her seven great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held a10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Revolution Fellowship in Anthony with Kent Olds officiating.
Memorials may be given in memory of Betty to either Country Living or the Revolution Fellowship and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday and Monday at the funeral home.
