Bryce Floyd, son of Floyd and Tressa (Bates) Hayes, was born June 4, 1935 in Licking, Missouri. His mother died when Bryce was an infant, and his father remarried Ann Watson when Bryce was ten.
On September 26, 1956, Bryce was united in marriage with Barbara O'Grady in the Catholic Church at Great Bend, KS and to this union four children were born, Sharon, Sandra, Susan, and Shayne.
Bryce married Carol Wagner on March 28, 1983 in Wichita and Bryce welcomed her children, Tamara and Bryant, to the family.
Bryce was blessed to have a large family and he enjoyed time spending time with them. He was kind, gentle, loving and generous. Special times including fishing tournaments at the pond, trap shooting in the pasture, opening presents at Christmas, and spending time at the lake house in Missouri.
Bryce began working in the family business, Hayes Well Service as a young man and in 1957 moved it to Attica. He loved the oil and gas business and it grew and prospered through his hard work and guidance.
He was a member of the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association; the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Harper of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community, the Knights of Columbus and was a former member of the Association of Oil Well Servicing.
On Monday evening, April 9, 2012, Bryce passed away at his lake home in Sunrise Beach, Missouri, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norman Hayes, and two sisters: Doris Smith and Selma Martin.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of twenty-nine years, Carol Hayes of the home in Attica; daughters: Sharon Niemann and husband, Greg, of Goddard, KS, Sandra Arnett and husband, Terry of Pratt, KS, Susan LaPlant and husband, Jim of Wichita, KS, Shayne Hayes and wife, Lorie of Attica; his step-children, Tamara Davis and husband, Lloyd of Dodge City, KS and Bryant Phye and wife, Vanessa of Overland Park, KS; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; nephew Mike Graves of Eagle Point, OR; niece Kathy Shupp of Reno, NV; and other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Prairie Rose Funeral Home.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with Father Michael Peltzer as officiant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be given at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, both will be held at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Harper, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community.
Interment will be at the Attica Cemetery.
Fellowship with the family will start at 3:30 p.m. at the Memorial Building in Attica.
Memorials may be given in memory of Bryce to the Newman University of Wichita or to the Cancer Center of Kansas, Kingman Branch and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
