Whitney Marie Amy Drouhard left her earthly body on Thursday, June 13, 2024 following a motor vehicle accident. She passed at Patterson Health Center with loved ones by her side.
Whitney was born September 10, 2001 in Winfield, Kansas. She was the daughter of Jon Oliver Nelson and Amy Rebecca (Bartlett) Gerlets. She graduated from Chaparral High School with the class of 2020.
Whitney would adamantly tell you that her life truly began on December 12, 2020 when she started dating Matt. This love continued to flourish. On April 15, 2023, Whitney and Matthew Edward Drouhard were united in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Danville, Kansas. They settled in Matt's childhood home near Danville. They shared a Godly marriage. Whitney turned to Matt as head of the household while Matt held Whitney on a pedestal, always putting her first.
On May 10, 2024, this union was blessed with a son, Colton Alan Drouhard. Matthew and Colton were Whitney's entire world. She was devoted, gentle, and loved unconditionally. She was beyond proud of her boys and beamed with joy when thinking of them. Whitney truly glowed as a wife and mother. They fulfilled her life's greatest dreams.
The Drouhard Family farm also brought her great joy. She quickly embraced the role of a young farmer's wife and looked forward to raising Colton to know the satisfaction of a hard day's work.
Whitney wasn't all about hard work. She loved classic cars and tinkering on them too. She hunted, fished, and could outshoot most men. She relished the opportunity to share fond memories of high school trap shooting.
Whitney was like sunshine. Her smile lit the room and her laughter was contagious. She found joy in the little things and spread joy to those around her. As a CNA, she cared compassionately for her residents. Her final caring act was organ donation.
Whitney is preceded in death by her father, Jon Nelson; infant sister, Abigail Ann Moody, grandfathers, Dennis Topper and Gene Bartlett; and step-grandparents, Lloyd and Susie Shelton. She is survived by her husband, Matthew Drouhard and son, Colton Drouhard of the home; mother, Amy Gerlets (Kenneth) of Bluff City, Kansas; Matt's parents, Roger and Jill Drouhard of Danville; brothers, Staton Nelson (Megan) of Anthony, Kansas and Kenneth Gerlets Jr of Bluff City; sister, Olivia Nelson of Cambridge, Kansas; Matt's siblings: Dylan, Jesse, Wyatt, and Gracie Drouhard of Danville; grandparents, Janet Lowry of Wichita, Kansas, Susan Hamm of Harper, Kansas, and Kitty and Stan Williams of Cambridge; many relatives and friends.
We can honor Whitney by loving Colton, her "Little Man" and keeping her memory alive.
Friends may register at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2024.
