Wesley Eugene Sallee was born on September 10, 1929 in Anthony, Kansas to Elmer C. and Denzel G. (Bellamy) Sallee.  He began school in Freeport and a few years later started going to school in Anthony, graduating from Anthony High School with the class of 1947.

On September 7, 1948, Wes joined the United States Navy and served his country proudly during the Korean War.  He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 stars and the United Nations Medal.  Wes was a Machinist Mate and held the rank of MM2, Petty Officer Second Class, upon his honorable discharge on September 4, 1952.

Wes was united in marriage with Iona Mae Bennett on June 30, 1953 at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, southwest of Anthony.  This union was blessed with 2 sons, Eldon and Larry.  The family made their home in various locations throughout Harper County.

A hard working man, Wes had numerous jobs throughout the years to support his family.  The main careers he held was as a farmhand for the Carothers as well as all the years of driving a truck for Danville Coop and others.  Wes was a lifetime member of the Harper VFW Post 11449 and was also active in the Harper American Legion, Jeff Long Post #104.

At the age of 89, Wes passed away on July 26, 2019 at Patterson Health Center, north of Anthony.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Eldon; and his grandson, Wesley Eldon Sallee.  He will be missed by his wife, Iona of the Attica Long Term Care facility in Attica; his son, Larry Sallee and wife, Dawn of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren: Stephanie Thornberry and husband, Michael and Anthony Sallee and wife, Robin; great-grandchildren: Isabella, Cody, Juliette, Laurie, Jonathan, and Brandon; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Harper VFW Post 11449 and can be sent in care of the funeral home.

Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Graveside Service is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the Harper Cemetery with Pastor Brenda Kostner-Johnson officiating and military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
