Wanda I. McCann, passed away early morning Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Anthony Community Care Center. She was 89 years old.
Wanda was born to Charlie and Audra Roy Orr at home on February 19, 1928. She was the third of seven children raised at Mincy in Taney Co. Missouri.
Wanda attended the early grades at Bee Creek School, she considered it the prettiest place on earth. She began high school at School of the Ozarks in Hollister, Missouri. During the last semester of her senior year, Wanda and a friend tied their bed sheets together and sneaked out of the third story room to go to a movie. During the walk into town, they just happened to meet a school official and were consequently expelled from school. She finished her education at the High School in Branson, Missouri.
Through mutual friends, Wanda met and fell in love with Ben McCann. They were married on November 7, 1946. To this union four children were born: Ben Jr. (Margaret), Charlie (Marty), Brenda and David.
After living in Mildred, Missouri, Klamath Falls, Oregon and Wichita, Kansas, the McCann family life changed in October 1961, when McCann Dairy Products was created in Harper, Kansas. Wanda worked by Ben's side, being the best "Hot Shot" driver around delivering product anywhere that it was needed.
After Ben and Wanda sold the business in 1980, they still enjoyed working together, remodeling houses, and enjoying golf and grandkids.
After Ben passed away in 1989, Wanda returned to Mincy, MO to become a caregiver for her mother. While there she became reacquainted with her old classmate, Roger Raper. Wanda and Roger enjoyed a number of good years together before his death in 1998.
Wanda returned to Harper in 2010, enjoying her home, old friends and being close to her family, but she always kept a very warm place in her heart for Mincy.
