Vickie Jean Prouse was born December 27, 1964 in Wichita, Kansas, daughter of Jimmie Harold and Vana Elyn (Allenbach) Prouse.  She grew up on the Prouse Homestead, north of Anthony.

Vickie attended Anthony public school as a child, she was 10 years old when she asked her grandma Allenbach how she could be saved by Jesus and on that day alongside her brother Hal, she asked Jesus into her heart. Vickie graduated from chaparral high school in the class of 1983 with many friends. She went on to pursue an education at WSU which led her to work for many years in child services and senior care.

Vickie raised her son Luke as a single mother in Oxford, KS before later moving home to Anthony to help her mother. She considered being a mom her greatest accomplishment in life and was very proud of her son.

Vickie enjoyed spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren and nieces over the years. She had a tender heart for animals and was known by all to never leave a stray cat behind, giving all who wandered her way a loving place to call home. She was a free spirit at heart and on any given sunny day, she could be found at the creek, hunting arrowheads or soaking up the sun with her best friend Chawna.

Vickie cherished the bonds she shared with her family and closest friends, she loved and was loved dearly by each of them even and especially through the ebbs and flows of difficult seasons.

Vickie passed away March 6, 2024 at her home in Anthony at the age of 59. She will be deeply missed by her son, Luke Merrifield and wife, Devan; grandchildren: Ariel, Rhett, and Blakely; brother, Hal Prouse and wife, Jennifer; nieces, Emry and Kaci; many other relatives and many friends.

Vickie's wishes were to be cremated.  Private family services will be held.
