Obituary

Vernis Lee Burlie was born August 19, 1969 to Verlyn Leo Burlie and Judy Ann Hess Burlie Bellin in Wakita, Oklahoma.  He attended Wakita School graduating in 1987.

In 1988, Vernis joined the United States Navy in Kansas City, Kansas.  He married Johanna Roldan in 1992 while stationed in Gulf Port, Mississippi. They later divorced while stationed in San Diego, California. After 20 years of service, Vernis retired in 2008.

Vernis then worked for several years doing contract labor in several foreign countries.  In July 2014, Vernis married Ketsarin Thapsai in Khon Kaen Province, Thailand.

On September 11, 2019 we learned that Vernis had passed away.  He was preceded in death by his father, Verlyn Leo Burlie; step-father, Dean Bellin; brother, Justin Aaron Burlie; grandparents: Fred and Mollie (Wisely) Burlie and Louis Paul and Mary Margaret (Naylor) Hess; and many other relatives.

Vernis will be deeply missed by his wife, Ketsarin of Thailand; his mother, Judy Ann (Hess-Burlie) Bellin of Wakita, Oklahoma; brother, James Leo Burlie of Ponca City, Oklahoma; nephew, Tyler Ray Stewart and wife, Sierra and children, Zoe, Zella, Zarah, and Zy; several aunts and uncles; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Christian Church in Wakita, Oklahoma with Pastor Jeff Enabnit officiating.  The family requests casual wear, as Vernis would want everyone to be comfortable.

Memorials may be made to the Wakita Cemetery and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
