Obituary

Verna Lea Boyer was born on September 15, 1934 on the family farm north of Harper, Kansas to Vernon Brooks and Lela Ethel (Rymph) Holtsclaw.  This is where she grew up with her younger sister before the family started moving around in the area.  She attended a rural grade school and then Jr High School in Anthony, Kansas.  Verna went on to Caldwell High School and graduated with the class of 1952.

Shortly after high school, Verna was married and blessed with three children: Ronald, Lynda, and Robert.  Living a short time in Harper, they then moved to Wichita, Kansas.  Verna had been teaching music at a school and then started having her music students come to her home.  After her three kids got further into school, Verna became a secretary at Ditch Witch and then L&M Marine, retiring after over 25 years.  She then went to work for Sellers Tractor for several more years.  Verna then started volunteering at the church she attended, Central Community Church, in the Helping Hands program.  Her health failing, Verna moved back to Harper in 2018.  The last few years, she was a resident of Country Living in Anthony and then Homestead of Augusta memory care.

At the age of 90, Verna passed away on April 2, 2025.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Lela Holtsclaw.  She is survived by her children: Ronald Boyer and his wife, Cheryl of Augusta, Kansas, Lynda Boyer Fisher and her husband, Wade of Harper, and Robert Boyer and his wife, Sharon of Wichita; sister, Deanna Evans and her husband, Delmar of Harper; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; cousin, Don Rymph of Denver, Colorado; other relatives and friends.
