Steven Joe Latta was born July 1, 1954 in Seminole, Oklahoma, son of Joseph Ray and Betty Jean (Sanders) Latta.  His family moved to Harper, Kansas where he attended school and graduated from Chaparral High School in 1972.

Steve worked various jobs before he chose his career as a paramedic.  He moved to Wichita where he worked for Sedgwick County EMS retiring as a Lieutenant Paramedic after 20 years of service.  After moving to Anthony, Steve went to work for Harper County Road and Bridge as a Road Grader.  He also worked the last several years as the maintenance man for Forest Park Cemetery, also serving on the cemetery board.

On August 10, 2005, Steve married Maryanne "Catt" Martens in Deadwood, South Dakota.  They both had a love for bike rallies, so getting married on a whim at Sturgis was perfect.

Steve appeared to be scary but was truly a softy.  He had the biggest heart, not only when it came to his family, but also when it came to his pets.  His biggest smiles were always brought to him by his grandchildren.

On June 28, 2021, Steve passed away peacefully.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve will be deeply missed by his wife, Catt; children:  Alison Schuster and husband, Jerrod, John Roeder, Jessica Mason and husband, Danny, and Katelyn McCartney and husband, Lewis; sister, Melody Kaufman; 10 grandchildren; as well as numerous friends and fellow riders.

The family has chosen to hold visitation at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper, Kansas from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 1st so that his friends may stop by and wish him a "happy birthday."

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2021 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper with Brandon Gerber speaking.  Steve will take his last ride in his pickup truck to the Harper Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.  Following the graveside there will be a reception at Westview Lodge in Harper for family and friends.
