Sharon Ann Ryan was born at the Bush Hospital in Harper, Kansas on September 5, 1945 to Ralph Edward and Emma Louise (Catherwood) Palmer. She attended Grandview Elementary and then Harper High School until her junior year. Later she attended Chaparral High School and graduated with the class of 1972.
On October 6, 1962, Sharon was united in marriage to David Hugh Ryan in Harper. This union was blessed with three children: Emily, Jamie, and Damon. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.
Working as a cook at Pykiet Nursing Home, Sharon was asked to work on the floor. Since she was now caring for patients, she decided she should further her education and in 1978, she attended St. Francis School of Nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. The family moved to Oklahoma City for a short time before moving to the Branson, Missouri area in 1981. Sharon worked for three different nursing homes in the area before obtaining her broker's license in 1985, beginning her career in real estate. Her parents failing in health moved to the Branson area in the 1990s and she cared for them until their passing in 1996 and 1998. A short time later, Damon was killed in a car accident. From then on, Sharon would ride with David in his semi, taking the opportunity to go antiquing in several states. The couple moved back to Harper in 2001 and Sharon became a farmer's wife. In 2007, Sharon moved to Wichita and became very active in antiquing and attending garage sales. Her love for shopping, she was very fond of shopping for hats with her girlfriends.
After a few years of battling with her health, Sharon passed away at the age of 76 in a Wichita hospital on March 9, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Emma Palmer and her children, infant Emily Gay Ryan and Damon Edward Ryan. Sharon is survived by her husband, David of the home; son, Jamie Ryan and his significant other, Jill of Vero Beach, Florida; grandchildren: Jacob, Jenna, and Scotty Ryan; other relatives and many friends.
Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral Service is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Harper with Phil Unruh officiating. Burial follows at the Harper Cemetery.
