Ruth Ellen (King) Base was born on January 19, 1931 in Anthony, Kansas to Daniel and Nellie (Hooley) Reber.  She passed away at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas on July 2, 2018.

Ruth was born at the family home near Anthony, Kansas.  She attended grade school in rural Anthony and took her high school and one year of college at Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas.  Ruth accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and was a member of the Crystal Springs Mennonite Church in Crystal Springs, Kansas.  She worked as a CNA in all the hospitals in Harper County and was a certified EMT for 10 years.  She also worked as the Activities Director at Attica Long Term Care Facility and did private duty nursing.

On April 2, 1954, Ruth married Ellis King of Harper, Kansas at the Crystal Springs Mennonite Church.  They lived north of Harper on a farm.  Ruth then changed her church membership to Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church, where she was an active member for nearly 58 years.  Ruth enjoyed working on the farm and loved working with animals.  Ellis and Ruth raised registered Yorkshire hogs and Ruth served as the President of the Kansas Porkettes Association, traveling around the United States representing Kansas.

Ellis and Ruth were blessed with two children, Jason and Frieda.  She was a very loving and devoted mother.  Family was very important to her and she passed these family values along to her children.

Ellis and Ruth moved off the farm in 1997 and moved to a home in Harper.  Ellis passed away on November 26, 1997 before he could live in that new home.  On August 26, 2000, Ruth married Leonard Base and they lived on a farm outside of Kingman, Kansas.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Nellie (Hooley) Reber, her husbands, Ellis King and Leonard Base, step-son Clint Base, brother-in-law Marvin Zook, and brother-in-law Forrest King.

Survivors include, her son Jason King of Harper, Kansas; daughter Frieda (King) Allen and her husband Chad Allen of Buena Vista, Virginia; brother John Reber and wife Nina of Hutchinson, Kansas; sister Dorothy Zook of Hesston, Kansas; sister-in-law Margaret King of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren: Daniel, Sarah, and Rebekah Allen of Buena Vista, Virginia; step-daughter-in-law Tammy Base of Wichita, Kansas; step-son Clifton (Whitey) Base and wife Sharon of Rago, Kansas; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and host of friends.

Friends may view and register on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday with family present for visitation from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church in Harper with Pastor Josh Patterson officiating.  Interment will follow at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Cemetery east of Harper.

Memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church or to Schowalter Villa and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
