Roy Phillip Horning, age 64, left us and joined the Lord on July 30, 2020. He was born September 14, 1955 in Enid, Oklahoma, the youngest of three children born to Louis and Bertha (Smith) Horning. He attended school in Wakita and graduated from Wakita High School in 1973. After high school, Roy attended Okmulgee Tech for a short time before returning to Wakita. Roy worked with his dad on the family farm southwest of Wakita. He was a life-long member of the Wakita Methodist Church where he enjoyed working with the youth group.

Roy enjoyed going to coffee every day, enjoying the company and conversation of many of Wakita's longtime residents. He enjoyed drives around the countryside. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies. Roy had an extensive collection of John Wayne, Star Wars and Star Trek movies…he was a true Trekkie. He was a huge fan of Elvis and was hoping to visit Graceland one day. He enjoyed helping out family members, doing odd-jobs or fixing things for them. Roy never married nor had children of his own, but he was a beloved uncle and great-uncle to his family, as well as, to the children of his extended family and friends. He was a big kid at heart. Roy would travel to McKinney, TX several times a year to visit his family. He would stay with his sister, Jeannie, who would always have a to-do list of things for him to help her with or to fix. He always commented on the traffic during these visits and that he much preferred the wide-open spaces of Wakita. Roy loved the Lord and will be fondly remembered for the small cross and poem, The Cross in My Pocket (Verna Mae Thomas), that he would always include anytime he sent cards to his family on their birthdays, anniversaries or graduations. He always carried a cross in his pocket.

Roy lived in Wakita, on the family farm where he grew up, until his death. Roy was preceded in death by his mother and father. He's survived by his sisters:  Cathy Seely and husband, James of McKinney, TX, and Jeannie Horning of McKinney, TX; nephew, Jason Seely (Leeanne) and children, Owen and Wyatt of Dallas, TX; niece, Lauren Dorff (Michael) and children, Adelaide, Annabelle, James and Edward of McKinney, TX.

Memorial Service will be held at Wakita United Methodist Church on August 22, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Laura Glover officiating.

Memorial donations in memory of Roy may be made to the Wakita United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
