Rodney Joe Kopf was born on August 25, 1967 in Wichita, Kansas to Larry William and Brenda Alta (Key) Kopf. When Rodney was 2 1/2 years old, his mom passed away and he went to live with his grandparents, William Rudolf "Buster" and Opal Alleen (Dunkelberger) Kopf, in Rago, Kansas. This is where he grew up, and attending school in area, Rodney graduated as Salutatorian from Norwich Kansas High School with the class of 1985.
Furthering his education, Rodney went on to Kansas State University and then to Wichita State University, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Business Education degree with a minor in Administration of Justice. While in college, he obtained a US Army four year ROTC Scholarship, Seaton Scholar (KSU), KSU Outstanding Student in Mathematics and Science Award, and Academic Commendation (WSU).
Rodney grew up working on the family farm in Rago. In his adult life he continued farming and wore many other hats, but his passion was always for teaching high school science and history. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, motorcycles, traveling, movies, history, classic cars, and spending time with his children.
After a courageous battle with cancer and other health complications, Rodney passed away at the age of 54 on August 3, 2022 at the Winfield Resthaven Nursing Home, under the care of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Brenda Kopf and grandparents, Buster and Opal Kopf. Rodney is survived by his daughter, Amelia Shah, her husband Aadil, and their daughter, Althea of Wichita, Kansas; daughters: Caitlyn Kopf, Jessica Kopf, and Roxie Richardson all of the Wichita area; sons, Stephen Burkholder-Kopf and Aiden Kopf, both of the Wichita area; other relatives and friends.
Graveside Service is 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Harper Cemetery with Pastor Royce Vogt officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rodney Kopf Memorial Fund to help the family defray funeral expenses and may be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 613 W 14th St ~ Harper, Kansas 67058.
