Obituary

Rodney Lee Gerberding was born August 4, 1946 in Anthony, Kansas, son of Fred and Elouise Ruby (Conrady) Gerberding.

Rod graduated from Bluff City High School in 1964 and was inducted into the US Army in July 1966, serving in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in May 1968.

On June 21, 1969, Rod was united in marriage with Delma Mayo.  They made their home near Clearwater, Kansas where they raised their three children:  Wendy, Ty, and Todd.  That same year he went to work for Allen's Concrete in Wichita as a ready mix driver.  Through four changes of ownership, he retired in 2013 after 44 years.

Rod loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, fast cars, his dog Jack, and teasing the grandkids.  Most of all he loved his family.

On September 16, 2021, after a brave 4 month battle with cancer, Rod passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 75.  Waiting to meet him in Heaven are his parents; his father-in-law, Delos Mayo; and son-in-law, David Gannaway.

Rod will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Delma; children:  Wendy Gannaway, Ty and Kristin Gerberding, and Todd and Deirdre Gerberding; grandchildren:  Tanner, Kenzie (Cainan Spellman), and Kaitlyn Gannaway, Zach and wife, Dakotah, Kira, Hayley, and Kylie Gerberding.  He was so looking forward to a great-granddaughter due in February.  He is also survived by his sister, Judy Eulberg and husband, Chris; mother-in-law, Madge Mayo; sister-in-law, Janice Bruey and her husband, Dean; more nieces and nephews than he could count; other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony, Kansas.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bluff City, Kansas.

Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.

Memorials in memory of Rod may be made to the Bluff City United Methodist Church or the Bluff City Community Building, and may be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
