Robert Floyd Pohlenz was born on August 26, 1937 at Bush Hospital in Harper, Kansas, son of Floyd Milton and Marthella Amelia (Genteman) Pohlenz.  The family made their home in Argonia and this is where Robert went to school, graduated high school with the class of 1955.

In 1959, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for over 24 years, to include over 2 1/2 years overseas.  He received multiple accommodations: Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 silver oak leaf cluster and 1 oak leaf cluster, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 1 silver oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.  Robert was honorably discharged on March 31, 1983 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

After this retirement, Robert's time was filled with bowling leagues, fishing, wood working, and playing card game with friends and family.  He also enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and scriptures by the Reverend Billy Graham.  Nothing made him happier than spending time with family.  Robert had a real love of nature and enjoyed watching all the nature shows on TV, as well as sitting on his balcony spotting deer, birds and local wildlife around the pond behind his apartment.  He also recently had made several visits to the Botanical Gardens in Wichita.

Due to a sudden illness, Robert passed away on December 2, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 85.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd and Marthella Pohlenz; wife, Lucille Marie (Egbert) Pohlenz on July 16, 2020; and two brothers, Louis and Melvin Pohlenz.  He is survived by his children, Robert Pohlenz (Susie) of Independence, Missouri and Patricia Ford (Mark) of Boca Raton, Florida; step-children: Thomas Gourd, Gloria Knight (Don), and Pam Parisse; sister, Karen Walker of Wichita; his sweetheart, Kathryn Parsons of  Wichita; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside Service is 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Argonia Cemetery with Pastor Eric Linville officiating.
