Robert Louis Baker was born May 18th, 1925 on the family farm near Bluff City, Kansas, son of Louis and Hedvika (Jelinek) Baker.  He grew up on the farm and graduated from Bluff City High School in 1942.

In 1943, Bob was drafted into the United States Navy. He was stationed at the Naval Base on French Frigate Shoals, Hawaii during World War II. After his discharge in 1946 he took advantage of his GI Bill and attended Kansas State for 1 year.  Bob soon realized that most guys with an ag degree were working for the county extension, but he just wanted to raise cattle.  Bob never went back to Kansas State.

Bob and Betty Louise Hare had their first date at a Tony Pastor (Big Band) dance at the Forum in Wichita, Kansas.  The two grew up 7 miles from each other and Bob was friends with Betty's brother, and Betty was friends with Bob's sister.  The two fell head-over-heels for each other and married on January 21 ^st , 1956.

They made their home on the Baker farm near Bluff City.  Bob raised cattle and farmed and Betty, a farmer's daughter, became a cattleman's wife.  Bob enjoyed playing baseball and softball, fishing, and attending local high school and K-State football games. In 2021, Bob and Betty celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.

On August 21, 2022 Bob passed away at Winfield Senior Living.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents: Hedvika and Louis Baker; his sisters: Kathryn Mayo and husband, Howard, and Dorothy Hawkins and husband, Bill; and nephew, Terry Hare.

Bob will be deeply missed by his cousin, Tom Baker; nieces and nephews: Wanda Wencl and husband, Bryon, HD Mayo and wife, Mickey, Jennifer White and her husband Paul, David Standrich and wife, Lynn, Daryl Standrich and wife, Tresa, Brian Hare, and Kay Koehler and husband, Bryan; other relatives; and many friends.

Graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2022 at the DeVore Cemetery, southeast of Bluff City, Kansas.

Registry and Viewing will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Anthony.
