Ralph Keith Hunt was born on Hunt Haven homestead on December 10th 1928 to Thomas Dalton Hunt and Nellie O. Ratliff Hunt. He was the eighth of nine children, one dying in infancy.

Ralph attended Camp Creek School just a half mile from home thru eighth grade and then attended Attica High School graduating in 1948. He attended K-State University for one semester, decided it was not for him and went home to what he loved, farming. Ralph's family always thought of him stubborn and were heard saying quite often that he would never amount to anything.

When Ralph was 22, he was drafted into the army and sent to Korea. He didn't want to go but Romans chapter 13 left him with the belief God would not want him to break the law. He never thought he would make it back home but he did less than two years later. He met another soldier when they stopped over in Missouri. He had a car and offered him a ride to go get something to eat. After they were on the road a while, the other soldier told him he needed to stop by to see his folks before they reported back to be discharged. Ralph told him just to drop him at the bus station, but he took him to his home where he was invited to stay the weekend. The other soldier was Jim Kelsey, and he had a little sister named Doris Jean.

The Kelsey's took Ralph in as family like only people who have known you since diapers can. By the end of the weekend Doris Jean told her Mama that she had met the man she would marry and less than two years later she did on February 21, 1954. Ralph always credited God for bringing them together. Two daughters were born to them Darla Jean, who died in infancy, and Pamala Jane. They made their home less than two miles from where Ralph was born and were happily married for 60 years.

Ralph served on many boards at church and in the community. He developed a reputation as a peace maker. Unfortunately, folks took advantage of that by giving him jobs no one else would take. Never the less, he served and helped where he could.

He was an avid woodworker and reader. He built cabinetry, furniture, and toys. He loved to restore furniture pieces.

Ralph passed away at his daughter's home on September 10, 2025. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Thom and Nellie; all eight siblings and their spouses, Rena Imel (Andy), Vivian Hughbanks (Frank), Lloyd Hunt (Miriam), Joan, June Crenshaw (George), Duane Hunt (Lula), Max Hunt (Phyllis), Wilda Brock (Ray); his in-laws, George and Pearl Kelsey; brother-in-law, Jim Kelsey (Delores), his oldest daughter, Darla; his beloved wife, Doris; and his son-in-law Charles.

He is survived by his daughter Pam, three grandchildren Kelsey Hazel (Saige), Jessi Wineinger (Andy), and David Smithhisler, and six great-grandchildren, Max, Austin, Jillian, Kaiden, Alex, and Wesley.

Military Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Attica Cemetery, Attica, Kansas.

Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church in Harper, Kansas.
