Obituary

Phyllis L. (Bowman) Roth was born December 3, 1928 on a farm in the Gyp Hills near Lasswell, Kansas, one of four children born to Ray and Dollie (Broce) Bowman. The family later moved to a farm near Atlanta, Kansas, where Phyllis attended a country school. During high school, she moved in with her grandmother in Medicine Lodge, where she finished her high school education. While living with her grandmother, Phyllis visited the Assembly of God Church in Attica, Kansas where she met the love of her life, Billy Lee Roth.

On August 29, 1948, Phyllis was united in marriage with Billy at the parsonage of the Assembly of God Church in Attica, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children: Sharolyn, Becky, and Rex.

Phyllis spent her life as a homemaker and babysitter. She was a devoted, loving, and gentle mother and grandmother. Outdoors was her favorite place to be. She was a great gardener and always canned plenty of food to last through the winter. An animal lover, she had many pets, dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, goats, birds, and cows, to list a few. She enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Phyllis made life fun! She was a prankster, having a knack for making people laugh. Always smiling, she brought joy to all those around her, with her gracious, positive attitude, and her tender hugs.

Phyllis had a great love for Jesus. She was a dedicated member of the Assembly of God Church. She loved teaching Sunday school and Bible school classes. She really enjoyed singing, one of her favorite songs being, Jesus Loves Me.

In September of 2014, Phyllis moved into Attica Long Term Care. After settling in, she grew to love the staff, but immediately loved the food. She made sure everyone there knew how much she loved them.

On April 1, 2019, Phyllis passed away at the Harper Hospital at the age of 90 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy; and brother, John Bowman.

Phyllis will be deeply missed by her children: Sharolyn McCreery and husband, Roger, Becky Goforth and husband, Don, and Rex Roth and wife, Barb; sister, Shirley Booe and husband, Jim; brother, Jim Bowman; 7 grandchildren: Rodney McCreery, Steven McCreery, Phillip McCreery and wife, Courtney, Spencer Goforth, Clint Goforth, Nahshon Roth and wife, Stephanie, and Alan Shank; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
