Pearl M. Shelton was born October 12, 1922 in Byron, Oklahoma, daughter of Earnie W. and Alice B. Meeks. She attended school at Byron-Amorita in Oklahoma, finishing her last year in Sharon, Kansas.
On July 28, 1941, Pearl was united in marriage with Sammie D. Shelton in Winfield, Kansas. This union was blessed with six children: Leona, Steve, Melvin, Vernon, Floyd and Della.
In 1954, the family moved to Anthony, Kansas. Pearl spent her life as a homemaker. She loved raising her children and grandchildren. Her family looked forward to her fried chicken and bean soup, which were her specialties. She and Sam enjoyed coyote and coon hunting and fishing together. She spent many hours, crocheting and sewing, making many keepsakes for all of her family.
On January 24, 2017, Pearl passed away at the Harper Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 12 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam on December 6, 1996; sons: Vernon Shelton Sr. and Floyd Shelton; siblings: Myrtle, Arkie, Hazel, Evelyn, Karen, Howard and Harold; great-great granddaughter, Ariel Winter; and son-in-law, Guy Patterson.
Pearl will forever remain in the hearts of her children: Leona Whitaker and husband, Ray, Steve Shelton, Melvin Shelton and wife, Harriett, and Della Patterson and companion, Fred Winter; daughters-in-law, Tena Shelton and Dora Shelton; siblings: Eunice, Sylvia, Pauline and Louise; 20 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Spring Grove Cemetery west of Anthony.
Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
