Pauline Frances Hoopes was born January 21, 1934 on the family farm near Bluff City, Kansas, daughter of Louie and Rosa Mae (Cowell) Gerberding.  She attended and graduated from Bluff City Schools. Growing up she sometimes rode a horse to school with her two siblings, Kenneth, on the front of the horse, her baby sister, Kathryn, in the middle and herself on the back rump.

She worked for Citizens National Bank in Anthony, and then took a job with First National Bank in Wichita, Kansas.  She went on a blind date in 1954, and a few weeks later her date, Francis Hoopes, was called to serve over seas. Pauline awaited his return in 1956, so the two could share a lifetime of happiness together.

On June 2, 1957, Pauline was united in marriage with Francis Hoopes at the First Baptist Church in Anthony.  This union was blessed with two children:  Debra and Roger.  They lived in Scott City for a short time before settling in Garden City, where they lived for 19 years.  During this time, Pauline ran a daycare in her home.  After Francis retired in 1988, they moved back to a farm near Anthony.

Pauline spent most of her life as a homemaker and farm wife.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anthony.  She loved gardening and canning.  She quilted making many heirlooms for her family and friends.

On May 8, 2022, Pauline passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on the farm east of Anthony at the age of 88 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Gerberding; and sister, Kathryn Kotuba.

Pauline will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years, Francis Hoopes; children: Debbie Hilst and husband, Kent, Roger Hoopes and wife, Katrina; grandchildren:  Keaton Hilst, wife, Brooke, and their daughter, Bella, Kinsley Riggs, husband, Cody and their daughter, Kalloway, and Kalen Hilst and companion, Meg; other relatives and many friends.

Friends may view and sign the register from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.

Graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony.
