Paul Casas Jr. was born September 15, 1958 in Idalou, Texas, son of Paul Sr. and Josie (Lozoya) Casas. He grew up in Idalou until moving to Attica, Kansas in 1966.
On December 31, 1979, Paul was united in marriage with Leslie Barker at the Faith Baptist Church in Attica, Kansas. Paul and Leslie made their home in Attica.
Paul worked at Attica Engineering, Hays Well Service, and Shawnee Well Service, until he became employed with Harper County Road and Bridge. He held a CDL and attended several safety courses throughout the years, receiving a certificate of achievement from the National Safety Council.
Being very active in his community, Paul served as a volunteer firefighter and was CPR certified. He served on the Chamber of Commerce and the 4th of July Committee, and was also a member of Lions Club, and helped with many Veteran's activities and community events. Paul had a heart of gold and was loved by many.
Leslie became ill and Paul cared for her day and night and was completely heartbroken when she passed away on November 9, 2010.
His grieving heart found some relief when he began seeing Gwen Scearce. He and Gwen married on July 11, 2015. Together they loved coaching girl's softball. Paul formed a special relationship with Gwen's daughter, Sarah. Sadly, Gwen passed away on November 11, 2019, leaving Paul with another shattered heart.
On July 6, 2021, Paul passed away in Wellington, Kansas, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Guadalupe Casas, Rosemary Lozoya Fitzgerald, and José Santiago; and his beloved wives.
Paul will be deeply missed by his sister, Mary Troyer; step-sister, Mary Lou Casas Arceo; step-daughter, Sarah Nelson; nephews and nieces, Devon Casas (Rae and daughter, Sophia Rose), Mariah Schiff, Raul Garcia Jr., and Mary Ellen Garcia Faulkerson; 5 grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Catholic services will be held July 24, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Harper, Kansas with the Recitation of Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. The family requests casual wear as Paul would want everyone to be comfortable in their blue jeans and a t-shirt. Inurnment will be in the Attica Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Paul may be made to the Attica Senior Center and may be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
