Patricia Ruth (Kastens) Coady, affectionately known as "Pat," passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the age of 93. Pat lived a life full of love, dedication, and care for those around her.
Pat was born in Anthony, Kansas to John Monroe and Eva (Armstrong) Kastens on August 30, 1931. She later attended Flowerdale School and graduated from Anthony High School. Growing up, they rode horses to school.    Pat was not a horse lover, so she was so happy when her dad purchased a cart. Her sister Francie was in charge of their commute. Pat worked at the movie theater and cleaned houses. She was raised in a devout Catholic family and was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anthony, now known as St. Joan of Arc Parish Community Catholic Church, all her life. Pat met Milford Coady when he returned home from the Navy. He swept her off her feet and they were married on July 30th, 1949 and moved to Freeport where they raised three children together, Mike, Jim, and Terry. Pat was Milford's number one helper on the farm. She drove many miles picking up parts and helping him move field to field. Pat drove a 57 Ford with a school bus sign on top to take her children and other local farm kids to school.
Pat was a devoted homemaker, best known for her generous spirit and incredible cooking. You could always hear her singing and humming a tune in the kitchen. She found joy in preparing countless home-cooked meals for her family and farm help, always ensuring that no one left hungry. There was never a shortage of getting help on the farm, because they knew they would get Pat's cooking. Her delicious pies became a signature treat, cherished by everyone who had the pleasure of enjoying them. However, one evening during dinner her son, Mike, said "we're having this again?" and Pat proceeded to take his plate to the back door, scraped the food off, and placed his plate in the sink. Jim never said a word and kept on eating. Mike never complained about her cooking again.
Pat never left the house without her hair and makeup perfectly done. Thursdays were sacred to her as she never missed a hair appointment. She took pride in presenting herself with elegance and grace. Shopping was one of Pat's favorite hobbies, and she had a knack for outlasting anyone during a day at the stores, even while wearing high heels. Her daughter, daughters-in-law, nieces and her best friend, Betty, were some of her favorite shopping buddies.
Beyond her style, she was known as a loving grandmother and great grandmother. Grandma/Gia would stay up all hours into the night reading to her grandson, Chase, even until her voice was hoarse. She enjoyed sharing her love of baking with her grandkids. Caleb would spend afternoons trying to master her pies with grandma over his shoulder. Her grandchildren would have sleepovers at her house where she would make forts and vanilla milkshakes. When her granddaughters stayed the night she would kick Milford out of the bed, so they could sleep with her. Cari loved bringing friends along to stay at Grandma Pat's house. Pat always had a secret stash of smores for her youngest grandchild, Calli. Pat rarely missed her grandson's sporting events and would travel to Oklahoma often to watch her granddaughter's sports and activities. Pat always looked forward to going on day-long shopping trips to find the perfect prom and homecoming dresses for her granddaughters. Her grandsons loved to tease her, especially about her hair. Cameron often said "Oh, I thought you got your hair fixed today" after she had returned home from her hair appointment, just to get a rise out of her. Pat had a great sense of humor and was able to poke fun back at them. Pat was overjoyed when her great-grandchildren were born. She would spend countless hours holding and spoiling them.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Milford), one brother (Bob Kastens), 3 sisters (infant Lois Kastens, Francis Mae Hatfield, and Joyce Wohlschlegel).
Pat is survived by her children, Jim (Lesa) Coady of Freeport, Mike (Cathy) Coady of Harper, and Terry (Mike) Kaiser of Covington, OK. 5 grandchildren, Chase Coady, Caleb Coady, Cari (Justin) McCartney, Cameron Coady, Calli (Trent) Troxell, 2 great-grandchildren, Kyla and Kase McCartney, brother, John (Mona) Kastens, and extended family, all of whom she adored deeply.
Pat leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and the simple joys of a life well lived. She will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all.  A special thank you to all the staff at The W Place for all the wonderful loving care they gave Pat.
The family invites all who knew and loved Pat to join in celebrating her life. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Sacred heart Catholic Church, Anthony, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish.
Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.
