Norma Jean (Meredith) Walcher was born on May 19, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas to Lloyd Jennings Calhoun and Majel Noretta (Chaney) Calhoun.  The family made their home on a farmstead near Belmont, Kansas.  Norma attended school in the area and graduated from Belmont High School with the class of 1942.  She went on to attend Wichita State University, majoring in music and music theory.

On November 19, 1944, Norma was united in marriage to Dwight Leon Meredith in Murdock, Kansas.  The couple were blessed with a son, Mark.  Initially they lived on the Meredith family farm northwest of Harper, Kansas.  The family then moved to Harper in August of 1956.

Norma and Dwight were Revival Evangelists for the Church of the Nazerene.  For 50 years, they were the musicians and assisted with everything but the preaching in Revival services for numerous Evangelists.  This had them traveling to all 48 continental states as well as Mexico and Canada.  Even though they weren't preachers, they never missed the opportunity to speak what was on their heart about the Lord.  A few years after the couple retired, Dwight passed away on April 3, 1998.

Having met someone to share her life with, Norma married M. A. Walcher on December 16, 2006 in Anthony, Kansas and they would travel some together until his passing on January 12, 2010.  Living in the same house in Harper since 1956, Norma finally had to move to Attica Long Term Care just a few short months before her passing.

In her spare time, Norma enjoyed her hobby as a seamstress where she could sew a dress, crochet Afghans, quilting, and so on.  You could also find her reading Christian literature or teaching piano to children.

Not long after Norma's 96th birthday, she went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 28, 2021.  Preceding her in death are her parents, Lloyd and Majel Calhoun; husband, Dwight Meredith, husband, M. A. Walcher; infant brother, Lloyd Jr; brother, Milton Meredith; and sister, Betty Krehbiel.  Norma is survived by her son, Mark Meredith of Harper; sisters, Ellen Catlin of Augusta, Kansas and Beverly Buttram and her husband, Wayne of Manford, Oklahoma; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Harper with Pastor Jon Shellenberger officiating.  Private family burial will follow at the Harper Cemetery.
