Obituary

Nellie Eleanor (Tucker) Robinson went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2022.  She was resting peacefully at her home at Country Living in Anthony, KS.

Nellie was born on July 27, 1925 to Edith Mercer and Marion Tucker in Waldron, KS.  She was one of eight children born into that union. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Tucker-Waggoner and Marion Tucker; brothers: Verl Tucker, Loren Tucker, and Harold Lee Tucker; sisters: Delores Hadsall, Lorene Scott, and Jean Downing; and her husband,  Jack Robinson.

She is survived by her youngest brother Wayne Tucker and wife Sally of Amarillo, TX; her four children: Cathy Palermo and husband Chris of Anthony, KS, Gary Robinson and wife Debbie of Harper, KS, Dennis Robinson of Colwich, KS, Laquita Smith and husband Chuck of Chehalis, WA; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Nellie graduated from Attica High School in 1942 when she was 16 years old.  She and her sister Lorene shared an apartment with Glenda Warner-Catherwood in downtown Anthony where she worked locally at Underwood's Creamery and the Harper County Courthouse.

In 1946, at a New Year's Eve dance, she met Jackie Robinson, whom she married on April 14th, 1946 and they were together 73 years until Jack's passing on December 13, 2019.  Early in their marriage they ran the Midway Station West of Anthony near Waldron.  Later they moved to Anthony where she worked at the Harper County Courthouse and assisted Jack at his Mobil Station.  In 1967, she started working as a secretary at Anthony High School and transferred to Chaparral High School when it opened in 1971.  She eventually moved to the Unified School District 361 office where she retired.

Nellie was active in the local Eta Alpha Sorority, Anthony Christian Church Women's Hospitality Committee, and Over the Hill Gang.  She and Jack enjoyed playing pitch regularly with a group of friends, traveling with friends on bus tours and cruises, and traveling to watch grandchildren in sports activities and performances.  Nellie loved being with family and friends and was loved by many...she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
