Myrel Carr passed away October 23, 2017 at the Anthony Community Care Center. She was born to David Oscar Yost and Stella Mae Ruff Yost in rural Lyon County, Kansas, January 23, 1919. She was the youngest of four girls and was affectionately called "Babe" by the family and community. Myrel graduated from high school at the age of 15 and graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor's degree in secondary education at the age of 19. She was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority and a thespian group known as the "Gilson Players" during her years at ESU.

Myrel taught in Cimarron, Kansas for two years then moved to Anthony to teach English, Drama, Debate and Journalism. She married Vernon Lee Carr on June 7, 1942. To their union were born three children, Marilee, Connie and Bill.

Myrel was active in Girl Scouts, the Anthony Methodist Church, Socias Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, and many community organizations. She served on the Board of Education and the Federal Housing Authority board. After her retirement from teaching, Myrel continued to tutor children in the community. She was proud of her community and had a deep love for Anthony. She was a world traveler, a fisherman, a member of several women's clubs and enjoyed playing golf and cards.

Myrel was an exceptional woman and a wonderful example of how to live and enjoy life to its fullest. She had a positive attitude and an independent and purposeful spirit. She loved her family, friends, and community. Myrel will be deeply missed by her three children and their spouses: Marilee and Spencer Puls, Connie and Jim Hill and Bill and Jennifer Carr; 6 grandchildren: Erin Anderson, Stacy Neufeld and husband, Kelly, Bill Ellithorpe, Megan Pope and husband, Jonathan, Tom Carr and Ross Carr; 10 great-grandchildren: Tim, Kaytlyn, Bethany, Jordan, Madeline, Spencer Charles, Karly, Chloe, Spencer Dean and Anderson; 2 great-great grandchildren: Sophia and Mason; many dear friends and former students.

Private family services will be held.

Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.

Memorials in memory of Myrel may be made to Chaparral High School English Department or to the Anthony Public Library and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
