Michael R. Dent was born August 5, 1948 in Harper, Kansas, son of George Edward Dent and Esmond Lea (Burns) Dent.  He grew up in Harper, graduating from Harper High School.  After graduating he went to work for Boeing in Wichita.

On June 9, 1967, Mike was united in marriage with Judy Angle in Harper, Kansas.  On July 19, 1967, Mike was inducted into the United States Air Force.  He served honorably until his discharge on July 11, 1971.

After his discharge, Mike returned home and he and Judy made their home in Anthony.  They were blessed with two children:  Derick and Lindsey.

Mike began his career with Gibson's in Anthony, Kingman, and Pratt.  When Gibson's sold to Alco, Mike continued managing the store until retiring after working 35 years in the retail industry. Mike was always "married to his work."  He was always devoted to his job and enjoyed all the time he spent with his work family and all the customers.

Mike's children and grandchildren were the only ones that trumped his work.  He always found a way to attend every activity they were involved in.  Coaching from the sidelines was something he loved and always looked forward to.  He also enjoyed golfing.

On July 5, 2020, Mike passed away at Patterson Health Center near Anthony at the age of 71 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward Dent.

Mike will be deeply missed by his wife, Judy; his children: Derick Dent and Lindsey Duwe and companion, Greg Hekel Jr.; siblings: Larry Dent (Bonnie), Jimmy Dent, and Pamela Cooney; 12 grandchildren:  Broderick Dent, Caleb Moore, Zacharie Duwe, Gage Dent, DJ Dent, Andrew Dent, Josie Duwe, Dallas Dent, Kadence Dent, Hallie Hekel, Oaklie Hekel, and Lettie Hekel; 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony with The Reverend Mary Hixson officiating.  Cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will be held at Forest Park Cemetery.

Friends may register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.

Memorials in memory of Mike may be made to the Mike Dent Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
