Maxine B. Carver was born February 9, 1924 in Protection, Kansas, daughter of Fred Lane and Gertrude (Booth) Baxter.

On August 11, 1940, Maxine married John Kennard Smith in Woodward, Oklahoma. JK was serving his country so Maxine returned to Protection, Kansas, completing her high school education in 1942. After JK returned from World War II in 1946, they lived in Wichita for a short time before moving to Anthony in 1948. They were blessed with one son, Barry. JK passed away September 13, 1987.

In the early 50's, Maxine or "Mac" as many new her, opened J-Mac Flowers in Anthony. She loved floral work and for more than 25 years enjoyed arranging and selling floral pieces. In 1980, she sold the business and retired. During her many years in Anthony, she also worked for M'Lady's Dress Shop and was a member of the United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

On February 21, 1991, Maxine was united in marriage with Thomas D. Carver in Alva, Oklahoma where they made their home. They were members of the United Methodist Church in Alva and were former members of the Moose Lodge. After Tom retired they began traveling to South Texas in their RV to spend the winters. The trip didn't excite her but once they arrived she enjoyed all the friendly people, parks and winter activities from potlucks and bingo to street music, jam sessions and various entertainers. Maxine dearly loved people and could always carry on a good conversation with anyone whether she knew them or not. She was also an avid reader.

On November 25, 2018, Maxine passed away in Alva, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Barry Smith; and siblings: Booth Baxter, Boyd Baxter, Eleanor Piper and Calvin Baxter.

Maxine will be deeply missed by her husband, Tom; grandchildren: Shawna Smith-Feuerbacher, Branden Smith Fein and Marces Smith; good friend, Donnetta Joachims; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Graveside service 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony. Visitation 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in memory of Maxine may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
