Maxine Elizabeth (Green) Barnes was born on October 27, 1924 in El Dorado, Kansas, the second of four children born to Herschel and Alverta Rosena (Schaffter) Green. She was united in marriage with the love of her life, Chester Frederick Barnes on December 14, 1940 in Wellington, Kansas. They were blessed with five children: Carolyn Ann, Marilyn Sue, Chester Frederick Jr, George Allen, and Cheryl Nadine.
Growing up, Maxine attended school in Anthony, Kansas and worked at several family restaurants. After getting married, Maxine and Chester lived several places before settling down in Harper, Kansas where they raised their children. Maxine was an active member of the Presbyterian Church. When the children got older, Maxine worked at the Harper grade school for several years. In 1965, she started working at the Harper Hospital, which she was very passionate about, and continued working there until she retired as a ward clerk in 1990. After retiring, Maxine continued to stay busy by helping at the Senior Center in Harper. In Maxine's lifetime, she worked hard, was very kind and compassionate, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
After a long and prosperous life, Maxine was called home to be reunited with her Heavenly Father, loving husband, three daughters, and two grandsons, who had been patiently awaiting her arrival. She passed away at her home in Harper on July 6, 2025 at the age of 100.
