In 1940 she moved with her parents to a Kiowa, Kansas farm where she graduated from High School in 1946.

She attended Kansas State College where she met her future life partner Jack Vernon Foland.

She and Jack were united in marriage on January 29, 1950.  The couple made their first home in Springfield, Mo. where their first son, Daniel Carl, was born in 1951.  They later moved to St. Louis, Mo. where they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Kay Ann, in 1953.  Later that same year they transferred to Tulsa, OK.  In 1957, their second son, and final child, Gregory Charles, was born.

She believed that her three children were truly a gift from God and were to be cherished and nurtured, along with her beloved husband they were the light of her life.

They moved to Skiatook, OK in 1965 where Jack had moved his general insurance agency.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1968 and her Master of Arts in 1976, both from the University of Tulsa.

She was an educator and counselor with the Skiatook Public Schools for over 25 years, retiring in 1992.  She believed that all children were God's gift to be nurtured during their formative years.
