Mary Jane (Wright) Collins was born February 23, 1948 in Enid, Oklahoma, the youngest of three children born to Joseph Olcott and Phyllis Patricia (Melcher) Wright. In 1954, her family settled on a farm south of Manchester, Oklahoma. She graduated from Wakita High School with the Class of 1966.
Mary married and was blessed with two children: Joseph and Christina. She raised her family in Oklahoma City. Mary worked in home health as a caregiver for many years.
After her children were grown, Mary moved back to the family farm she was raised on. She was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Wakita, Oklahoma.
When Mary's mother, Phyllis, was unable to remain on the farm, Mary moved to Denver, Colorado to be closer to Joe and Christina. At the top of Mary's priorities was her family. It reflected in every decision of hers.
Mary's interests were gardening, car rides, and puzzles. She was a social butterfly.
On May 16, 2020, Mary passed away at her home in Denver, CO at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Phyllis Wright; sister, Jo Ellyn Sanders; brother, Bill Wright and grandparents, Fred and Cora Wright and John and Frances Melcher.
Mary will be deeply missed by her children: Joseph J. Collins and wife, Dulce, and Christina Lea Collins; grandchildren: Brittany Collins and Brandon Collins; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, south of Manchester, OK with Father Joseph Nettem officiating.
Viewing and Registry will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.
Memorials in memory of Mary may be made to St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
