Bluff City

Obituary

Martin Gustaf Jelinek was born April 22, 1928 on the family farm near Bluff City, Kansas, son of Gustaf and Mary Frances (Bobek) Jelinek.  He graduated from Bluff City High School in 1946.

On August 31, 1952, Martin was united in marriage with Betty Lee Russell.  They made their home on a farm near Bluff City, where they raised their three children:  Nancy, Jane, and Jeff.

Being born and raised on a farm, Martin had a great passion for farming his entire life.  He was a member of the Bluff City United Methodist Church.  He was also proud to be a Mason, receiving his 50 year pin.  He was very active in the Bluff City Masonic Lodge and when that lodge closed he transferred to Anthony Masonic Lodge #200 AF & AM.  He enjoyed hunting, playing baseball with the Blackstone team, camping, waterskiing, and bridge games with friends.

Martin loved his family deeply.  He was always there for his children and grandchildren, never missing the chance to attend a baseball game, or send a birthday sticky-note.  He was funny, warm, compassionate, and a hard working man who truly believed and gave the advice repeatedly that "things always have a way of working out."

On June 13, 2021, Martin passed away at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 93.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie Bradley; and his beloved wife, Betty.

Martin will be deeply missed by his children:  Nancy Jelinek and husband, Gene Corns, Jane Boozalis and husband, Steve, and Jeff Jelinek and wife, Jeanne; 6 grandchildren:  Russell Jelinek and wife, Melissa, Amy Latta and husband, Ross, Tyler Jelinek, Sara Roberts and husband, Dylan, Ted Boozalis, and Emily Boozalis and fiancé, Scott Gilmore; 5 great-grandchildren:  Sedona and Marguerite Jelinek, and Ty, Brody, and Drake Latta; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony with Reverend Karen Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bluff City, Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.

Memorials in memory of Martin may be made to the Bluff City United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
