Marlin Lee Trotter was born June 9, 1920 in Anthony, Kansas, son of Charlie Walter and Edyth Mattie (Parr) Trotter. He attended school at Berlin in rural Anthony.

Marlin enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged with a disability before completing boot camp.

Following his discharge, Marlin went to work at Consolidated Vultee Air Craft Company in Fort Worth, TX. It was during this time that he met Mildred "Millie" Nunley. They were united in marriage May 29, 1949 in Wichita and were blessed with two children, Michael and Mary.

The family made their home in Wichita, Kansas where Marlin went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company as a mechanic.

Marlin eventually came back to Anthony where he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, delivering mail. He started as a relief carrier delivering on Saturday's only in the Manchester, Wakita and Nash, Oklahoma areas. Eventually the full time carrier retired and Marlin was asked to take his position. This meant two trips a day delivering mail, totaling 250 miles of driving, which he loved. He voluntarily delivered the Anthony Republican to Manchester and Wakita, so his postal customers would receive their papers in a timely fashion. He loved telling stories about his mail delivery days, how he hated using the CB so if he got stuck on his route, he just waited until one of his friendly farmer postal customers would come by and offer to pull him out. And after hitting five deer once, he became a firm believer in deer whistles. He made many friends on his delivery route throughout the 23 years he worked for the post office. At age 80, he finally decided to retire, after he realized he would be making just as much money each month from social security as what he was making delivering mail.

Although most of his reminiscing and stories involved his career at the post office, Marlin had other joys in his life. In his younger years, he played the saxophone in a band. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing and antique cars. Most of all, Marlin loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Spending time with each of them was something he always looked forward to. Telling his family the stories of his life was something he did regularly. If he told the same story twice, it was sure to be better and more interesting the second time.

On August 14, 2012, Marlin passed away at the Harper Hospital at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Loren, Clifford and Olin Trotter.

He will be deeply missed by his son, Michael Trotter of Kechi, KS; daughter, Mary Gerber and husband, Patrick of Wichita; granddaughter, Megan Brand and husband, Shawn of Wichita; grandson, Loren Gerber and wife, Natalie of Tulsa, OK; great grandsons: Manuel Trotter and Philipp Gerber; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony with Reverend Jim Anderson officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Marlin may be made to the DAV and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
