Luetta Mae Bonham was born January 12, 1928 in Anthony, Kansas, daughter of Orva and Rova Mae (Swafford) Waggoner. She grew up on a farm in the Spring Township graduating from Spring High School.

Growing up, her house was where many families and neighbors came to socialize and enjoy time together. One of the many families that came by on a regular basis was the Bonham family. Between school, the family gatherings, and church functions at the Burchfiel United Methodist Church, Luetta and Galen Bonham became well acquainted eventually falling in love.

On May 25, 1950, Luetta was united in marriage to Galen Bonham in Anthony, Kansas. They made their home on a farm in Harper County where they raised two children: Deborah and Michael.

Luetta was a busy farm wife, mother and homemaker. She helped in every aspect of the farming operation, while also keeping the house, cooking the meals, and taking care of her children. She had a gift for sewing, making many of her children and grandchildren's clothing, and also teaching them how to sew. She was an amazing cook, and her Easter dinners were always the best. She enjoyed reading and needle work.

Luetta loved staying active in the community and her church. She was a member of the Burchfiel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, EHU Spring Chicks, Athena Club and the Farmerettes. Through the church she and Galen were MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship) co-sponsors for many years, and she served as the Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer. She was proud to be involved in her children and grandchildren's activities and volunteered as a project leader for Spring Robins 4-H Club.

A loving, kind, caring, nurturing mother and grandmother, she was always proud of all of her family. Many will remember her for her sassy, spunky personality, her quick wit, and her ability to always speak what was on her mind. She was truly genuine and one of a kind.

In 2012, Luetta made her home at the Anthony Community Care Center. She truly enjoyed living here and was appreciative of all the staff and the other residents. She stayed active participating in most all the activities.

On August 6, 2019, Luetta passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Galen on May 10, 1995; infant son, Gale Lynn; son-in-law, Junior Hunt; and 6 siblings: Venita Bellew, Vincent Waggoner, Ruth Hanke, Johnnie Waggoner, Wayne Waggoner and Dee Waggoner.

Luetta will be deeply missed by her daughter, Debbie Hunt; son, Mike Bonham and wife, Carol; sister, June Moore; brother, David Waggoner; 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren: Bridgette Hendrick (Andy) and children, John Jr., Elaina, Coady, Mylie, Jordan, Dylan and Angel, Elizabeth Nordwall (Jason) and children, Rowan and Hudson, Jessica Hughes (Greg) and children, Gregory and Jaylen, Jay Hunt (Kandace) and children, Jax and Silas, Kirsten Meireis (Cody) and daughter, MaKenzie, and Nathan Bonham; 2 great-great grandchildren, John Trae and Brazen Blick; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony. Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials in memory of Luetta may be made to the Burchfiel United Methodist Church, the Anthony Community Care Center or to Good Shepherd Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
