Obituary

Loretta Mae (Shumaker) Babcock was born to Robert and Ruby (Baker) Shumaker on December 14, 1936 in Lacrosse Missouri. At an early age, the family moved to Hazelton Kansas. She was the oldest of 4 children. In 1955, She married Victor Kent Babcock in Attica Kansas. They were blessed with 2 daughters Patricia, and Patsy.

It wasn't rare to find Loretta out in the garage with Kent helping with his mechanic job or driving a wheat truck during harvest. She was also a devoted member of the Faith Baptist Church in Attica Kansas for many years. She loved to crochet, worked on word searches, coloring in her adult coloring books, and loved playing board games with her kids and grandkids.

Loretta worked for the SRS for many years as a home care worker. Then she worked at Little Rascals Daycare, where she cared for many local children who have very fond memories of her. Kent passed away in 1998, and Loretta continued to live on the farm until the fall of 2006 when she bought her parents' house and moved to Attica, Kansas.

Here she resided until her diagnosis of cancer in 2022. Her health declined, and in June of 2024 she was moved to the Attica Long Term Care Facility. This is where she passed away on June 21st, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kent of 42 years, sister, Lillian Graves, brother, Larry Shumaker, grandson, Shane Jordan, and great grandson, Gabriel Schreiner.
