Memorial Service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas.
Lloyd Virgil Folger was born on July 29, 1934 in Anthony, Kansas to Troy B. and Amanda M. (Hess) Folger. The family moved to a farm near Viola, Kansas in 1947 and Lloyd graduated from Viola High School with the class of 1952. He was in football, basketball, and track.
Lloyd obtained his Bachelor's degree from Friends University and his Master's degree from Emporia State College. Making his home in Wichita, Lloyd was a teacher at Cessna Elementary for 31 years and then Fields and Longfellow schools for another 5 years. Later in life he purchased a farmstead in Oklahoma but remained in Wichita.
For over 70 years Lloyd attended Midway Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He also led single adult ministry in love (SAMIL) for many years. In or outside the church, Lloyd was always quick to lend a hand to whoever was in need. Lloyd was in the Sedgwick County Teacher's Union for over 25 years and served as president multiple times. He was also a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts while he was in college.
At the age of 90, Lloyd passed away on May 4, 2025 with his daughter by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Amanda Folger; sister, Mildred Lee and her husband, Barney; and nephew, Dale Lee. He is survived by his daughter, Julie O'Leary, her husband, Kevin, and their children: Shannon, Connor, and Trevor; nephew, Paul Lee and niece, Lynn Gehring; other relatives and friends.
Graveside Service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025 at the Manchester, Oklahoma Cemetery with Pastor Ray Emery officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lloyd Folger Education Fund and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
