Obituary

Lewanna Jean Hill was born January 24, 1935 in Anthony, Kansas, daughter of Kenneth Raymond and Etna Pearl (Galloway) Fox.  She grew up in Anthony, graduating from Anthony High School with the Class of 1953.

After graduating, Lewanna worked at Campbell's Variety Store, during which time she met Ronald Edmund Hill.  They were married on May 9, 1954 and this union was blessed with three daughters and one son.

Lewanna was homemaker until 1965, when they purchased Smith Grocery Store, renaming it Ron's Foodliner. In 1970, she and Ron started the red van business, displaying birthdays, anniversaries, congratulations, and other announcements, which could be read when driving down main street.  In 1976, they sold the store and she went to work at Supreme Market.  She worked there until becoming a stay-at-home grandma for the Harbin family.  That's when she gained three bonus grandkids.  All of her grandkids were the pride and joy of her life.

Lewanna was a lifelong member of the Anthony Christian Church.  She had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved all babies and in recent years after moving into Attica Long Term Care, she tried convincing the nursing home to put in a daycare so she could rock babies all day long!  She and Ron were huge supporters of many organizations.  She was also an animal lover.

On March 17, 2023, Lewanna passed away at the age of 88 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron on June 24, 2019 after they celebrated 65 years of marriage; her son, Edmund Hill; and her daughter, Diana Hill.

Lewanna will be deeply missed by her daughter, Tammy Norman; daughter-in-law, Susan Hill; grandchildren: Heather Brannon (Joe), Shana Appelhanz (Anthony), Melissa Barnett (Kelly), and Kyle Hill (Audrey); great-grandchildren: Michaela Brannon, Destiny Barnett (Tough), Travis Barnett (Georgina), Blane Appelhanz, Bryce Appelhanz, Thomas Hill, and Harrison Hill; great-great grandchildren: Zaylee, Jaycia, Braxton, and Briley; bonus grandchildren:  Spencer, Ali, and Kori Harbin; brother, Gayle York (Sharon); brother-in-law, Gerald Hill (Anna); her Attica Long Term Care family; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.  Friends may register 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wellington Humane Society and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
