Leonard Leon White was born on April 14, 1943 in Anthony, Kansas to Orlie and Velma (Smith) White, one of three sons. He passed away at his home in Argonia, Kansas on March 4, 2019 at the age of 75.
Leon was a machinist and mechanic in his early years. He developed his creative talent and became well known in the area as the owner of White's Upholstery in Argonia. However, his family regards him as one who could build, fix, or create anything.
On January 28, 1961, Leon married his high school sweetheart, Linda Jean Downing. To this union was blessed three children: Darlene, Scott, and Kathie and the family made their home in Argonia.
Through the years, Leon was always involved in the restoration of vintage vehicles. He was most recently working to complete his 1940 Chevy Deluxe coupe. Leon was a long time member of the Argonia United Methodist Church and enjoyed being a part of the K&O Steam & Gas Engine Club.
Preceding Leon in death were his parents, Orlie and Velma and a grandson, Matthew White. Leon will be missed by his aunt, Ruth White of Harper, Kansas; his wife, Linda of the home; children: Darlene Cooney and her husband, Greg of Wellington, Kansas, Scott White and his wife, Paula of Park City, Kansas, and Kathie Stucky and her husband, Bryan of Argonia; brothers, Roger White and his wife, Deborah of Lufkin, Texas and David White and his wife, Bonnie of Chanute, Kansas; grandchildren: Joshua Cooney and his wife, Cynthia, Debra White, Sarah (Cooney) Bradbury and her husband, Nathan, TJ White and his wife, Dianna, Kaitlyn (Stucky) Zomlot and her husband, Mustafa, Cameron Stucky and his wife, Kiarra, Allison (Totty) McKinney and her husband, Robert, Courtney Totty, and Cody White; twelve great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Friends may view and register from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Argonia with Pastor Wes Young officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, south of Danville, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Argonia United Methodist Church and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
