Larry Stanley "Butch" Wohlschlegel, youngest child of Joseph and Lucy (Davis) Wohlschlegel, was born on August 22, 1943.  Butch was the only child not born on the farmstead.  He was raised on the family farm northeast of Harper, Kansas.  After graduating Harper High School in 1961, he moved to Washington State to take a job as a welder with Boeing, for whom he worked his entire life, moving back to Harper County and working at the Wichita Boeing facility.  Up the road from the farmstead where he grew up, Butch began building his own home for his family.  Butch was the father of a daughter, Andrea Rae, and twin boys, Travis Lynn and Wesley Richard, with his former wife, Lynn.  In addition to his Boeing job, following his father Joe's retirement from farming, Butch farmed with his brother, Doug.  Following Doug's retirement, Butch assumed the farming operation, and cultivated his cow herd.  He was very proud of his grass-fed, hormone-free beef.  Butch was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life, and many of his relatives have fond memories of fishing with him.

Butch retired from Boeing in 2005.  The last seventeen years he has lived with his companion, Margaret Jacobs Catlin, on his rural homestead.  He enjoyed improving his land, clearing pastures, and building ponds.  After retiring from ranching with the sale of his cow herd in 2019, he continued to enjoy driving his pastures, feeding the fish that he stocked, and watching wildlife.  Butch and Margaret enjoyed attending auctions and regional gun shows, and watching the deer from their front deck.  Butch had been in declining health the last couple of years.  Following a brief final illness that took him from Patterson Health Center to Hays Medical in Hays, Kansas, and then was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, where he was anointed by Fr. Martin with the Sacrament of the Sick.  Butch was transported back to Kansas on October 26.  Butch passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 30, 2021 at Patterson Health Center in Harper County.

In addition to his children, Andrea Slaughter and her husband, David of Harper, Travis Wohlschlegel of Newton, Kansas, and Wesley Wohlschlegel of Harper, Butch is survived by Margaret Jacobs Catlin of the home; Margaret's two children, whom he considered as his own, Roger Reinolds and his wife, Theresa and Darla Phelps and her husband, Aaron, their daughter Kiva Jacobs and her husband, Matt, and their twins, Kaislee and Cage; and Darla and Aaron's son, Tel and his fiance.

Butch is also survived by his older sisters: Shirley (Raymond) Drouhard of Wichita, Kansas, Charlotte "Blondie" (Leonard, deceased) Wedman of Danville, Kansas, and Sharon (Leon) Drouhard of Argonia, Kansas.  Butch leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Joe and Lucy, Butch is preceded in death by his siblings:  Rose (and Guy) Washburn, Joann (and Tom) Giggy, and Douglas Wohlschlegel.

Cremation has taken place.  Friends may register from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 12 , 2021 at the funeral home.

Memorial Service is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13 , 2021, at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper, with Phil Unruh presiding.

In accordance with Butch's wishes, his ashes will be disbursed over the land he loved.  A memorial stone for Butch will be placed at his parents' grave in Fairview Cemetery, Danville.
