Larry Ray Mitchell, 76, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on August 21, 2026. Larry was born May 19, 1950, in Liberal, Kansas, to Clyde and Betty (Brown) Mitchell. family moved to Satanta during his elementary years, where he attended school through his high school graduation. He accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age and recommitted his life to Christ in his early twenties.

Larry attended Friends University where he met his wife, Connie Hoover. They married in 1970 and finished college together as music majors, sharing 56 years of marriage. Larry taught music in Sharon, Kansas, before joining his father-in-law in the sign business, Hoover Sign Company. He later returned to school to earn his Master's degree from Wichita State University in school administration.

For years, Larry had felt God leading him into full-time Christian service, but he wasn't sure what that meant until he was called to Central Christian School in Hutchinson, Kansas. Over the years he served as an administrator at other schools in Missouri and Kansas until his retirement. In retirement, he stayed active as a bus driver at Johnson County Transit and later as a receptionist at Kiewit Corp.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Betty Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Connie of Lenexa; his sons, Chad (Shiloh) Mitchell of Rockport, Texas, and Kelly (Lynne) Mitchell of McPherson, Kansas; his daughter, Teri (Brian) Biller of Lenexa; his brothers, Dale (Patricia) Mitchell and Eric Mitchell; his sisters, Judy (Perry) Kolb, Janice (the late Eddie) Keener, and Gail (John) Kennedy; 14 grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Graveside Service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at the Attica Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the worship ministry of Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W 87th St Pkwy, Lenexa, Kansas 66219. Please reference the Larry Mitchell Worship Ministry Memorial Fund.
