Keith Patterson was born October 6, 1937 to Floyd and Ethel Patterson. He was the youngest of 6 children - brother Wendell, sisters Winifred, Wilma, Winona and Joy, all of whom preceded him in death. He was raised near Attica and later near Manchester. He lived on the Kansas side of Oklahoma! Their mailing address was Manchester, Oklahoma but they lived in Kansas.
Keith passed away June 8, 2021 at 4:40 am. He was being treated for pneumonia and that is what brought him to the end of his life. He was independent to the end, refusing to ask for help when he actually needed it. He had been in need of oxygen the last two weeks of his life and that caused him much anxiety. He just couldn't give up his independence.
Keith had an interesting life, living in numerous places. He was in the Army and spent some time in Germany. He would often speak of his time there. At one time he operated a small grocery store in Manchester that was called Keith's Market. He always liked to meet all the people and he definitely inherited the "gift of gab." In his later years he and his wife had moved to Florida. While there he treasured time with his sister Joy and her husband Harold and their 3 daughters. It was a great time for all.
In later years, after he lost his wife, he had a difficult time. His brother and sisters were concerned of his welfare and knew he wanted his final resting place to be in Anthony. Worried if he stayed in Florida until he passed away his family would cremate him, he saved up some money, bought a bus ticket to Wichita, Kansas and contacted family when he arrived. He did not want to be cremated.
After returning to Kansas, Keith lived in an apartment complex for a time until it became obvious he could not make it on his own. He moved in with his niece for a few months and then decided on his own to move into the nursing home in Wellington. He moved to Wellington Health and Rehab on May 18, 2012. He truly enjoyed living there. He loved the staff and they loved him. He was always very happy and cheerful. The staff at the facility will miss him very much.
Keith will also be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews.
He will be laid to rest near his beloved wife in Anthony, Kansas exactly where he wanted to be.
