Karl Johann Von Dorenstein was born April 3, 1947 in Gravette, Arkansas, son of Harold Richard Drew and Georgia Irene Appling.  Karl's father was in construction, so the family moved around a lot while he was growing up.

As an adult, Karl lived in California for many years before moving to Anthony, Kansas, to be near his family.  Battling health issues, he moved into the Anthony Community Care Center in December of 2000.

After getting situated, Karl came to love living in his new home.   He was active in many of the activities the home offered and was especially proud to compete in the Senior Olympics, bringing home many medals he loved to show off.

On March 15, 2022, Karl passed away at Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 74 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carrol Black.

Karl will be deeply missed by his sister, Mary Haynes and husband, Lucky; sister, Ruby Daniels; brother, Richard Drew and wife, Sally; 13 nieces and nephews; great-nephew and niece, who he had a special bond with: Michael Nelson and Tegan Haynes; his Anthony Community Care Family; and other relatives.

The family will be holding a private memorial service at Spring Grove Cemetery west of Anthony.
