Karen Kay (Hoover) McDermeit, 78, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother passed away on November 17, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Karen was known for her love of family, music, her kindness, her ability to make everyone feel important, and her loyalty to those she loved.

Born on June 10, 1943 in Harper, Kansas to Robert Paul and Laura Isabel (Mayberry) Hoover, Karen was the youngest of three girls.  She attended Harper Elementary and then Harper High School, graduating with the class of 1961.

Karen had a deep passion for music and a beautiful singing voice.  She performed at many special occasions and was always happy to accept a request.  Karen loved reading and shared this love with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed many vacations in Red River and motorcycle trips around the country with her husband, Clay.

Furthering her education, Karen attended Southwestern College and Central State University.  She was a licensed daycare provider and small business owner.  She retired as a manager with FedEx Business Center in Albuquerque.

Preceding Karen in death are her parents, Robert and Isabel Hoover; sister Velda Walsh and her husband, James; and brother-in-law, James Harris.  She is survived by her husband, Clay McDermeit; her daughters, Lisa and Darcy; and grandchildren, Cecilia and Isabella; her cherished sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Lyle Pearl; sister-in-law, Kay Harris; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. November 22, 2021 at FRENCH-Wyoming, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE ~ Albuquerque, NM 87109

Visitation will then be 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021 with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Harper with Pastor Bruce Wilson officiating.  Interment follows at Harper Cemetery.
