Karen Julane (Huddleston) Ashpole was born on October 24, 1940 in Harper, Kansas to Glenn Thomas and Marjorie Josephine (Hughes) Huddleston.  The family made their home on a farm west of Harper.  Karen attended a local grade school before attending Attica High School, graduating with the class of 1958.  She later attended a business college to further her education.

In addition to her duties of raising three children, Karen worked as an administrative assistant for various insurance agencies in Wichita, Kansas.  When she retired, she returned to build a home on her childhood, family homestead.  When that house was destroyed by a tornado in 2012, she returned to Valley Center, Kansas.

Crocheting and reading was what Karen really loved to do.  She also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with her family.  But nothing could top the love she had for her children and grandchildren.

At the age of 80 years, six months, and 16 days, Karen passed away on May 10, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Marjorie Huddleston and brother, Leroy Huddleston.  She is survived by her children: Michelle (Jeff) Strecker, Karla (Bryan) Brockus, and Steven Ashpole; grandchildren: Tony Barnum, Morgan (Jason) Tolle, Jordan and Jared Burns; sister-in-law, Julie Ashpole; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
