Joyce Lou Brown was born June 18, 1930 in Geary, Oklahoma, daughter of Carl and Magdalene (Eades) Goss.  She lived in several small towns in central Oklahoma and then graduated from Geary High School. She met Virgil after his honorable discharge from the United States Navy. They met when Joyce was visiting her Aunt Lou, who was married to Virgil's cousin Paul. During their courtship, Virgil was so smitten with Joyce that he drove his tractor to Geary, OK to see her one time.

On April 2, 1949, Joyce was united in marriage to Virgil Jay Brown in Attica, Kansas.  They were married for 60 years. This union was blessed with two daughters, Joan and Sherry.  The family made their home on a farm west of Attica.
Joyce was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a wonderful cook, she had beautiful flower gardens, she loved her Siamese cats, and her Chihuahuas (especially Peso!) Peso never met a friend he didn't Bite!

Joyce loved to shop and she never met a piece of jewelry she didn't like! She and Virgil had several unique collections together which included carnival dishes, clocks, dolls, bottles, antiques and flower arrangements. For 30 winters, they were able to enjoy driving their camper to Acapulco, Mexico. Joyce took pride in having taught herself to speak Spanish.

She was a member of the Attica Assembly of God Church where she played the piano and organ for over 50 years.
On October 9, 2019 Joyce passed away in Broken Arrow, OK at the Broken Arrow Assisted Living at the age of 89.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; grandson, Brian Jay Lichlyter; son-in-law, Marty Rishell; and siblings: Cheryl Sutherland, Armond Goss, and Dayle Goss.

Joyce will be deeply missed by her daughters: Joan Lichlyter and husband Larry of Broken Arrow, OK and Sherry Rishell of Anthony, KS; 5 grandchildren:  Marcy Leffingwell and husband Chris of Coweta, OK, Troy Lichlyter and wife Kerry of Broken Arrow, OK, Lacey Dolph and her husband Darian of Del City, OK, Aaron Rishell and wife Shelly of Goddard, KS, and Freddy Rishell and wife Amy of Wichita, KS; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Ava Smith; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Visitation and Viewing will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Assembly of God Church in Attica with Pastor Vernon Kampe officiating and assisted by David Wyatt.  Burial will follow in the Attica Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Joyce may be made to the Assembly of God Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
