Joie Jack McCormick was born on January 19, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas. The son of Esten Lee and Blanche Nellie (Reida) McCormick, he was an only child and the family made their home on a farm 2 miles south of Belmont, Kansas, a small community southeast of Kingman. Joie attended grade school in Belmont for 8 years and graduated from Adams High School with the class of 1956.

Making the decision to serve his country, Joie joined the Air National Guard and became a member of the 127th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. After 3 years of service, he was honorably discharged as an Airmen First Class on March 16, 1959. Joie went on to serve 3 additional years as a reserve in the Air National Guard.

Joie was united in marriage with the love of his life, Olive Ann Beck on March 1, 1959 at the Harper Christian Church. Not much more than a stone's throw away from his family farm, the couple made their own home and farmstead. The couple was blessed with 5 children: Diana, Joseph, Galen, Brad, and Kristi.

A hard working man, Joie worked over 20 years for Boeing as a machinist all while having a farm and his own custom cutting business. He also found time to be a part of and contribute to many different organizations. A member of the Adams Union Sunday School Board, Joie also taught the high school aged group as well as being a youth sponsor, taking the kids to rallies in Wichita and Hutchinson. He was a 4-H leader for 25 years, a member of the Norwich/Kingman School Board, Kingman County Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge member and also served as secretary, Norwich Booster Club Board Member, and President of the local Farm Bureau Board and the State Young Farmers and Ranchers board. Joie and Olive Ann attended Youth Group and Church at the Harper Christian Church. April 10, 1950, Joie was Baptized at the Kingman Christian Church and later in life he attended the Methodist Church in Norwich and then Cheney. Not only was Joie a workaholic and active in his community, he was very talented on the piano and the accordion. Joie enjoyed motor cycle riding, participating in the local fair tractor pulls, bowling, collecting Ertl farm equipment, and attending and watching his children and grandchildren participate in their many activities.

At the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 10 days, Joie passed away on October 29, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas and joined his parents in heaven. He is survived by his wife, Olive Ann, of over 58 years; children: Diana McGowan and husband Mark of Hampton, Virginia, Joseph McCormick and wife Kelli of Celina, Texas, Galen McCormick and his wife Kim of Wichita, Kansas, Brad McCormick and his wife Sarah of Scott City, Kansas, and Kristi McCormick of Clearwater, Kansas; grandchildren: Erin Schmidt and her husband Josh and Kavan Mark, Logan, Madison, and Daxton McCormick, Chase and Chandler McCormick, Brynn, Peyton, and Brock McCormick, Hunter, Garrison, and Faith Wells; step grandchildren, Brock and Brant Horning; great-granddaughter, Maisyn Wood; other relatives and many friends.

Friends may view and register on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral is at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper with Pastor Mike McGovney officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, north of Belmont.

Memorials may be given to the Greenwood Cemetery or to the Cheney Fire Department and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
