Obituary

John Edward Walborn was born February 9, 1937 to Earnest and Lillian (Harmon) Walborn. He passed away in Oklahoma City on June 22, 2025.
He lived his entire life in northwest Oklahoma, growing up in the Byron area before later moving to Cherokee. He drove cattle truck for many years before going to work for Alfalfa County District 2 in the early 1980's. In 1996, he was elected County Commissioner for Alfalfa County District 2 and served two terms before retiring. His true passion was working on antique tractors and he took pride in participating in tractor pulls. He attended the Byron Christian Church for many years before later also attending the Cherokee Christian Church and the Bethel Baptist Church in Cherokee.
He was married to Penny Englehart and to that union two daughters were born. On November 8, 1975 he married Noretta Starkey Baird and gained three stepchildren. Together they had one daughter.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leland; his twin sisters, Leona Polson and Lenora Enterline; as well as four brothers-in-law, Dwayne Williams, Mike Blackburn, Leon Enterline and James Hess; and his stepson Randy.

He leaves behind his daughters: Karen Davis, Sharon Kimball, and Julie Walborn; stepdaughters, Pam Hanna and husband Carl, and Joni Baird; ten grandchildren; multiple great and great-great grandchildren; sisters: Betty Blackburn, Mary Hess, and Florence Williams; sisters and brothers-in-law: Richard Polson, Ellen Walborn, and Nadine and Jim Schiff; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Spring Grove Cemetery, west of Anthony, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Wheatheart Nutrition in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and can be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Home, 602 E. Main St., Anthony, KS 67003.
