Joan Newberry-Helm, otherwise known as "Jody" by relatives and close friends, passed away peacefully at her home in Wellington to be with her Lord and Savior on September 30, 2020.
Joan was born on July 9, 1931 in Caldwell, Kansas. She was the first of four daughters born to James T. and Allene (Coslett) Garlow.
Joan was united in marriage to Clifton Newberry on July 10, 1949, making their home in Attica. To this union three boys were born, Michael, Dennis, and Randy.
For many years Joan was known as the beautiful woman who owned The Fashion Shop in Attica. She was proud of the fact that women came from miles around. She enjoyed those trips to market to choose the on-trend clothing The Fashion Shop was known for.
After losing her husband of 40 years, she married Jerry Helm, making their home in Wellington, Kansas. Her hobbies included shopping, gambling, and enjoying her loved ones, all of which she was very accomplished.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Newberry, Michael Newberry, Jerry Helm, Becky Newberry, and three sisters.
Joan is survived by Dennis Newberry and wife, Penny, of Gassville, AR, Randy Newberry and wife, Brianna, of Attica, 7 grandchildren: Jeff Newberry, Jody Reid, Jason Newberry, Justin Newberry, Jennifer Bowe, Dustin Newberry, and Derek Newberry, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Joan will be missed by all that loved and adored her.
Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2020 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper, Kansas with Pastor Tom Scott of Phoenix Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Attica Cemetery, Attica, Kansas.
Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials in memory of Joan may be made to Phoenix Hospice or the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, 613 W 14th St ~ Harper, Kansas 67058.
