Obituary

Joan M. Mackey was born on February 14, 1928 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Jerry Michael and Stella Elizabeth (Olivier) Mackey.  She went to school in Danville and graduated from Harper High School with the class of 1945.

After school, Joan went to work as a secretary for Western Power in Harper.  She then moved to Wichita and worked for many years at Industrial Steel.  Before retiring in December of 1993, she worked as a secretary for the District Court in Wichita.

Joan was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Catholic Church in Wichita.  However, she returned to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Danville to play the organ for Sunday Mass for a number of years.  She was an avid golfer and bowler and loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees.

Her last few years were spent as a resident of Wheatlands Health Care Center in Kingman.  This is where she passed away on May 14, 2019 at the age of 91 years and 3 months.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Stella; her brothers: Ed, Jerry J., Don, and Alan; and her sister, Betty Lee Cummings.  She is survived by her sister, Barbara Wise and husband, Bob of Wichita; sister-in-law, Marilyn Mackey of Wichita; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Friends may register from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Danville, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community with Father Bob Pinninti officiating.  Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, south of Danville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
